MARK Molesley was delighted with his side for showing belief in themselves after Weymouth thrashed Farnborough 6-0 in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

A brace from Brandon Goodship and goals from Jake McCarthy, Harry Baker, Ben Thomson and Abdulai Baggie secured the rout which sees Weymouth stay fourth in the table with 60 points.

Reflecting on the game, which comes after the 2-1 defeat in mid-week to struggling Dunstable Town, Molesley said: “I thought it was a thoroughly professional performance, I thought the boys showed a lot of belief in themselves because people who were not at the game (against Dunstable) probably questioned us losing to a team near the bottom of the division.”

The team had been looking for a quick reaction to the mid-week defeat and got it through the 6-0 drubbing of Boro.

Molesley said: “We still had confidence and belief in ourselves but we just needed a quick reaction to get three points because we are at that stage of the season where points matter, so there is no good putting in good performances if you are not getting the points.

“It was important we reacted quickly and took three points which I was pleased with.”

The Terras were 3-0 up after 30 minutes with McCarthy showing superb control from a Boro clearance before firing in, while Baker looped the onrushing Aiden Upward in the Farnborough goal with a wonderful headed effort before Goodship shot in from close range.

It was the second time in the league this season that Weymouth have put six past Boro following the 6-2 victory in October.

Molesley said: “I think we are always capable of doing that, I think we probably could have got five or six on Tuesday it just did not happen.

“Unfortunately for Farnborough they have caught us on a bit of a hot streak and previously.”

The second half saw Thomson get the fourth after 62 minutes after carrying on a run and tapping in when upward fumbled the ball from a Goodship shot.

Thomson then broke into the box two minutes later and passed to Goodship who was in a lot of space in the box to fire home with CJ Fearn sliding after the ball, while Baggie wrapped up the win with a low shot struck from distance in added time.

Molesley said: “The boys have worked their socks off, we created numerous chances and I think that has been the story of our season, I do not think there are too many times where our team has not created much. So overall I was really pleased with the performance.”

Molesley felt like the entire squad from back to front played very well, as he said: “I think it would be unfair to single anyone out, to be honest. I thought everyone to a man stood up.

“It was a real good team performance, they stuck together, resolute defending, creativity in midfield and good finishing up front.

“From a manager’s point of view to get a clean sheet, three points and to get the amount of goals is a good afternoon.”

The Terras are next in action tomorrow when they face a trip away to Royston Town (7.45pm).
