FOUR girls from Weymouth Junior Netball Club are setting their sights high by trialling for the Team Bath under-17 squad.

Skyla Erskine, Tia Chaloner, Carla Wood and Jaimee Browne are all members of the local club and attended trials in January.

All four girls have progressed through the England Netball Player Pathway, starting at Weymouth Satellite Academy where they were coached by local league chair and UKCC Level Three coach Louise Bugler.

The girls currently train weekly at the Dorset County Academy based in East Dorset.

Weymouth Junior chair and head coach Kelly Browne has been impressed with the girls' commitment and dedication.

She said: “Skyla, Tia, Carla and Jaimee, along with Millie Hambleton-White, travel to Bournemouth every Wednesday evening for two hours of training.

"In addition, they train on Saturday mornings with our club, compete in the local league on a Thursday night and also compete in a regional league for the North Dorset Netball Club based in Blandford.

"Their decision to travel to Bath University to trial against girls up to two years their senior is testament to their focus and drive for the sport."

The Team Bath franchise is one of the clubs that represents the South West and West of England and has a thriving community focus, attracting a large and engaged fan base.

More than 9,000 spectators have attended matches at the Sports Training Village during the 2017 Superleague season.

Browne also noted that the girls have been fully supported by their schools – Thomas Hardye (for Skyla, Tia and Carla) and Budmouth (for Jaimee). Each school’s sports and netball coaches are encouraging them and inspiring them to achieve their netball ambitions.
