FOLLOWING two weekends without a game Dorchester’s first XV return to Wadworth 6X Dorset & Wilts One South league action in a top-of-the-table clash with Dorset Dockers.

The previous fixture at Coburg Road ended with a one-point win to Dorchester in a nail-biting game. This was the Dockers last loss and since then both sides have put in some big scores, Dockers running up 120 points against Bridport whilst Dorchester failed to go into three figures with 94 points against Lytchett Minster.

Having had an enforced break Dorchester can select from a strong injury-free squad, and with Callum King back following his concussion, a familiar settled side will take to the pitch.

Liam Kershaw continues in the number two shirt whilst the successful half-back pairing of Tom Bradbury and Alex Peel will look to unlock the Dockers’ defence. The only change to Dorchester’s last starting 15 is George Foot stepping in at full-back for Matt Read who is unavailable.

Laurence Burch and Luc Scadden both come onto the bench after yet more great performances in the A XV.

Coach Ben Parker commented after team selection: “Dockers will once again be a very testing encounter, which we are under no illusions about.

“We have a clear understanding of their style of play and have worked hard in training this week to be able to stop them using their fast running game.”

“Training has been fast-paced and high-tempo this week with an emphasis on working hard when fatigued and under pressure. Patience will be the key to winning and the team are fully aware this won’t be as high scoring a game as some of our recent results.”

Dorchester will need to start strong and maintain a steady dominance, they will need to finish well and attempt to keep the pressure on the Dockers at every opportunity. Whilst a win will keep them at the top of the table, coach Parker said: “I am sure we can secure the bonus point win and those important five points. I am also confident we will warm up well and hit the start hard. I think we are in a strong position and can turn the Dockers over.”

Dorchester’s A XV entertain New Milton’s third team at Coburg Road and the Gladiators Third XV travel to near neighbours Poole looking for a win on the road. Sunday sees the junior section in action at home with the U7s through to the U12s welcoming Bournemouth.

n Elsewhere in One South, Weymouth and Portland, and Bridport, travel to Salisbury Seconds and Lytchett Minster respectively.
