DORCHESTER Town boss Steve Thompson insists attacking midfielder David Jerrard’s recent departure from the Avenue Stadium was a “mutual agreement”.
Jerrard and Dorchester decided to part company after the midfielder had made 28 appearances for the Magpies this season, scoring four times.
When asked to elaborate on the situation, Thompson revealed that Jerrard, who made 68 career appearances for Dorchester, scoring 12 goals, felt his playing minutes had been limited this season.
He told Echosport: “I don’t think that Dave felt he was getting enough game time – I felt that he had. It was a mutual agreement.
“Dave probably felt that he wasn’t in my plans, although to be fair he has played more than some. But when someone doesn’t want to be at the club you have to bear that in mind.”
With Jerrard becoming a fans’ favourite after scoring the goal at Stratford Town that helped keep Dorchester up last season, Thompson admitted his form this season had been inconsistent.
He said: “He gave us something a little bit different. He’s had some games where he has been effective and other games where he hasn’t, but that could apply to most players.”
Meanwhile, the Magpies’ trip to Kettering has been provisionally rearranged for Tuesday, March 27 (7.45pm).
