WELLWORTHY secured an eventful win in the Ladies’ County League against Bournemouth in a game of contrasting fortunes.

On the first rink, Daphne Gale, Rita Glanville, Pam Skinner and Sheena Willis got off to a good start as they went 6-2 up after three ends, after winning by five on the third end.

The tables were turned in the eighth end which the visitors won by five.

They then steamed ahead, adding a four in the 13th end to leave the home team trailing 21-10 but Wellworthy fought back to win three of the last four ends but were eventually forced to concede 26-15.

However, rink two was a different story as Carol Dixon, Mary Irvine, June Gillespie and Marion Clements were 5-2 down after three ends but won by five in the fifth end to go 8-5 up. They never looked back after that and after winning the next end by one Bournemouth were stuck on six points until the 13th end, which they won by two but were still 15-8 down.

Wellworthy then pulled further ahead as they won by four on the 14th end, three on the 15th and rounding it off with another three on the 21st end, to make the final score 28-14.

This win on rink two meant Wellworthy secured an overall 43-40 victory Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, a heavy loss on an away rink saw Wellworthy held to a draw against Bridport, despite winning all other three rinks in the Mixed County League.
