DORCHESTER 155 beat WEYMOUTH 143 by 12 runs

DORCHESTER claimed a 12-run pre-season friendly win over Weymouth at Dorchester Rec.

Batting first, captain James Dunham struck an excellent 74, but only Simon Mitchem (15) was able to join him in double figures as the Weymouth attack shared wickets, spinner Shafeek taking 2-25.

In reply, Dom Webb scored 44 and was assisted by Jack Taylor (19no) and captain Harry Mitchell (18) but the Seasiders fell agonisingly short of their target as Nathan Quinn (3-19) bowled effectively.

Speaking to Echosport after the game, Dunham was pleased to see his young players step up.

He said: “It was a really good day, but freezing cold. Both captains wanted to see the young guys perform in the game.

“Ollie Osborne performed well with the bat and Nathan has matured over the winter, as well as Finn Barge who showed maturity with the ball.”

Weymouth skipper Mitchell, said: “It was a really good all-round performance from all 11. Shafeek bowled leggies with great control.

“Dom again batted with calmness and some huge sixes and Jack had a good all-round game bowling tight and adding some good runs at eight. I’m really happy with them for stepping up for the team.”
