SPRINGFIELD A reclaimed the Division One title in the West Dorset Table Tennis League after relinquishing it to Budmouth last year.

They won all 16 of their matches with Jeff Rigby also winning all 33 of his games to top the division and league averages while Tim Scott, Andy Pipe and Michelle Leonard made up the remainder of the team.

Park District were once again the bridesmaids as they finished runners-up with Ray Cody topping their averages and also finishing third in the division averages behind Rigby and Scott.

Moses Lewis joined surviving member of last year’s winners Budmouth A, Will Jolliffe, who were ably assisted throughout by Tom Lydford, Robin Prince and league chairman, Neil Hardisty, but they had to settle for third place this year, despite winning more matches than Park but ultimately not enough legs.

Similarly, Red Triangle beat YMCA to fourth, winning five of their matches and YMCA half of theirs in winning eight.

Mick Hogan had a good season for Colliton X with a 54 per cent average in his 22 matches as they finished sixth.

Preston B finished above Shipton Gorge A and B, with the latter at the bottom of the table.

Budmouth C emulated Division One title winners, Springfield A, in winning all 16 of their matches in marching to the Division Two title as Josh Clarke and Jed Brackenridge both only lost one match each all season with Nathan Calton and Ben Howe completing the team.

Springfield B pipped All Saints A to second place by two points despite losing two games more.

Wyke A and Preston A finished the season with identical records of played 16, won eight, lost eight but it was Wyke that won more legs and so sneaked fourth place.

Springfield C were sixth with Mike Page finishing top of their averages while Shipton Gorge C were the only team to draw more than one game over the course of the season and finished in seventh, just ahead of STEPS.

Pilgrims A finished bottom with a solitary win, a tight 22-19 victory over STEPS. Stuart Walden topped their averages with one of his wins inflicting the champions’ Clarke to his aforementioned only loss of the season.

The youngsters of All Saints B secured the Division Three title by the smallest margin possible, a solitary point, from Colliton C.

The champions actually lost to Colliton in the runners-up’s last game of the season and so needed 60 points from their last two matches to clinch the title.

In the first of those matches they beat Budmouth D 30-11 and so with the extra point for the win, required 29 points from their final match against Wyke C. They ran out 28-6 winners and so when adding the extra point for the team of Jess Moggeridge, Richard Lane, Ethan Clarke and Ollie James sneaked over the line by the skin of their teeth.

The girls of Budmouth E ended the season in fourth having won over half their matches during the campaign, with the improving Rosa McKechnie top of their league averages.

Wyke C in fifth and Wey Valley in sixth were separated by one point despite Wyke winning three more matches.

Wyke B finished eighth, only two points behind STEPS, while an inexperienced Budmouth D team was ninth with Louie James and Noah Ackerley almost neck and neck in the averages.

Preston D finished second bottom with a solitary win over bottom team All Saints C to their name with Lynda Clegg topping their averages.

All Saints C actually won three matches during the season despite finishing bottom and so have a good base to build on for next season with Edith Dedman well up the averages despite the team’s league position.

The committee would like to thank all players and captains for making this yet another successful season for WDTTL.

The league’s AGM will take place at the Springfield Club at 7pm tonight.
