WEYMOUTH rowers enjoyed a successful weekend at Langstone Regatta, which saw two teams take second place before the Hayling Island race where one of their men’s crews claimed a stunning victory.

At Langstone, the juniors showed plenty of determination in overcoming a very unfortunate start to their race by fighting back and taking second place, showing themselves to be a strong and determined crew.

Ladies’ Veterans and Ladies’ B gained second places with Ladies’ A third, Men’s A and Men’s Veterans taking fifth and the mixed team took ninth, while overall Weymouth came fifth and remain in third place in the Jurassic League.

Weymouth followed their Langstone display when the men’s crew came first by eight minutes in the Hayling Island race. The race was shortened due to conditions and was a distance of 10.62 miles with Weymouth completing the course in 1.45.02.

One Weymouth crew member said: “It was a great day at the Hayling Island race.

“It is a shame the weather prevented us from going all the way round. Thanks to a great crew and Heddon for brilliant coxing.”

The next regatta for Weymouth will be Ilfracombe and Bridport in early July.
