YEOVIL TOWN 2

Trialist D 39, Henry 63

DORCHESTER Town lost for the first time on their new 3G pitch as goals from Yeovil Town’s Trialist D and Korrey Henry in each half sealed a comfortable 2-0 win at the Avenue Stadium.

Yeovil, as expected, began much the stronger and registered the first shot on target as Trialist C tested Kingsley Latham.

The Glovers’ lively Gabriel Rogers was next to shoot at goal, but misdirected his header when unmarked from 15 yards.

Sharp closing down from Magpies’ new signing Ash Pope briefly worried Yeovil gloveman Steve Phillips, but from the resultant goal-kick the Glovers broke upfield and teed up Rogers to shoot harmlessly at Latham.

More good work from Yeovil spread the play to Rogers on the near touchline, who controlled immaculately and ran inside, only to drag a shot wide from 20 yards, before Luke Winsper teed up a half-chance for Ross Carmichael, who nodded wide.

Alex Fisher tried an overhead-kick after a generous Neil Martin clearance before former West Ham forward Henry was intercepted by Callum Rose when clean through, before curling wide from 18 yards moments later.

After a brief lull, Yeovil deservedly took the lead, albeit in fortunate circumstances as Trialist D slammed a volley goalwards from 45 yards. Latham’s attempted paw to safety was too weak and the ball trickled over the line in the last real action of the half.

Following a flurry of subs for Dorchester, Trialist D curled wide for Yeovil after a skimmed header from Rose.

But the Magpies were undone after an incisive ball from defence found Alex Fisher, whose neat flick set Henry away to clinically finish past Latham into the far corner.

Dorchester responded brightly through Alex Stafie, who superbly rounded Phillips after cutting out Tyrique Spencer-Clarke’s wayward backpass, only to miss a gaping goal from a tight angle.

Stafie nearly made amends when chipping through for Tom Blair, whose strike was saved by Phillips before Callum Thompson cut inside from the resulting corner to force Phillips into a fumble.

Neither side could fashion any further chances in the remaining 20 minutes as Dorchester fell to their first defeat this pre-season.
