WEYMOUTH captain Harry Mitchell feels achieving a sixth successive win at Stalbridge Seconds tomorrow (1.30pm) would enable the Seasiders to “mount a big challenge” for the County Division Two title.

Mitchell’s men have beaten current leaders Wimborne & Colehill, Beaminster, Kingston Lacy, Charlton Down and Cranborne to move into third, one point behind second-placed Marnhull and three behind the Minstermen.

Weymouth face a Stalbridge side without a win this season, their streak of 12 successive losses the worst record in Dorset, but Mitchell guarded against complacency.

He told Echosport: “You can’t take anyone for granted. If their first-team thinks they’re safe they might drop a few down and try and keep them in the league.

“You’ve got to go out there and play every ball on its merit. They might not drop anyone down but we can’t take that risk. They might have ambitions to stay in that league.”

On his side’s run of form, Mitchell added: “If we can make it six in a row when we come to Witchampton next week it’s going to really show that we’ve got a lot of form.

“Then we can go from there and try and mount a big challenge. We can play this attacking brand of cricket.

“It’s not about going at 10-an-over, we can go at five or six-an-over, try and be a bit more flexible at the top and aggressive with the running and try and be a bit more on our toes.”

Weymouth make two changes from the side that beat Cranborne by 250 runs, with John Wilson and Jonny Armfield unavailable, meaning Paul Collins and one of Jack Taylor or Dave Blackman come in.
