DORCHESTER Town manager Steve Thompson pulled no punches after a 5-1 drubbing by Winchester City, labelling the Magpies’ performance as “shocking”.

Results are seldom taken notice of in pre-season but City, who play one league below the Magpies, went 3-0 up inside of 26 minutes through captain Jamie Barron’s brace before Dorchester’s Harry Kite suffered concussion.

Kite’s injury ended the first half, with play resuming for the second around 20 minutes later than scheduled. Dorchester did pull a goal back following a short corner routine as Sean Stewart tucked home.

However, the Citizens netted twice more through Simba Mlambo and Matt Andrews to complete a miserable night for the visitors.

Speaking to Echosport, Thompson said: “It was shocking, very poor and obviously a nasty incident (with Kite) but to be fair we were 3-0 down.

“It was very disappointing and we got what we deserved, which was well and truly beaten.”

But Thompson did find a positive in Stewart’s goal.

He said: “It’s hard to take the positives but it was a good little short corner taken quickly and Sean put it in.”

Dorchester will train on Saturday in the absence of a pre-season friendly, with Tom Blair (shin) and Ross Carmichael (back) set to be assessed.
