DORCHESTER Town manager Steve Thompson has confirmed that the Magpies will not replace their cancelled pre-season friendly with Wimborne Town and will instead train tomorrow.

Wimborne had arranged a fixture with Dorchester, however, after Matty Holmes’ men were promoted to the Southern Premier South following a reshuffle, the encounter was cancelled.

In the aftermath of a 2-0 loss to Yeovil Town, Thompson did not rate the Magpies’ chances of gaining another fixture.

He told Echosport: “I think it would be very hard to. I have thought about Dave Ring (secretary) getting a circular out and asking if any teams want a game, but that day won’t go to waste.

“It can be used for technical and tactical, I just need to get 22 players in that are local and really go to work on what we want to do for the (Metropolitan Police game) in terms of how we want to play.”

Speaking on the situation after Wednesday’s 5-1 loss to Winchester City, Thompson felt the poor result had given his side “a lot to work on” during tomorrow’s bonus training session, and offered updates on the club’s injured players.

He said: “We’ll be training – there’s a lot to work on. We’ve got injuries with Tom (Blair) and Ross (Carmichael) not available – hopefully they will be able to train.

“It’s been difficult with Aaron (Rodriguez) and Ollie (Griggs) and now Tom and Ross. Hopefully they will be fit for the Saturday after.

“Losing Harry (Kite) to concussion it will keep him out for two to three weeks but he’ll be assessed. There’s protocols with concussion and they’ll have to be followed, like they should be.”
