WEYMOUTH and Portland Cruising Association members enjoyed a short weekend cruise to Worbarrow Bay and were well supported with eight boats sailing in almost perfect conditions from Weymouth.

By lunchtime everyone had arrived and crews went ashore for a BBQ on the beach and many swam in the unusually warm water and the more energetic walked up to Tyneham Village.

Some boats had to return to Weymouth on Saturday evening but those that stayed had an interesting night at anchor with the wind picking up and one boat dragging its anchor and others having to up anchor and relocate.

Fortunately no damage was done and the wind had dropped by the morning which meant a motor sail home.

Back in Weymouth Alan Sampson on Music Maker said: “It was a great cruise and good company.

"The sea was warm too and tempted many of us to swim.”

This week is the start of the West Country cruise with eight boats signed up for a trip along the coast.

The first stop will be in Torquay and then moving west to Dartmouth, Plymouth, Fowey and Falmouth.

John Atkinson is leading the cruise and any members wishing to meet up should radio John on board his boat Eleanor.
