PORTLAND Red Triangle captain Matt Randell admits the islanders may have to play more “defensively” due to a shortage of bowling options against struggling Shillingstone tomorrow (1.30pm).

Randell’s men head into the County Division One contest without seamers Rich Samuel and Rob Townley.

Batsman Ollie Whisker will miss the rest of the season, with the trio replaced this week by spinner Jack Marsh, keeper Ryan Price and batsman Chris Theakstone.

Speaking to Echosport about the tactical changes needed, Randell said: “I think our bowling attack should be able to cope with it but we are going two bowlers light. We’ll have to work out when we need to attack and defend and we may have to play a bit defensively on the field.”

Shill sit four points above the drop zone in eighth and Randell is wary of the north Dorset side, who could leapfrog his team with victory.

He said: “I thought they had a few good players when they came down to our place. They’re trying to keep themselves up and working really hard.

“I don’t know if they’ll have any different players than they had at ours.”
