WEYMOUTH held their inaugural T20-style finals day at Wey Valley School in an initiative to help raise £200 in funds for the club.

Four teams of eight players – Weymouth A and B, plus Saggies and Cosmos – entered the event at which pink balls were used, while music and refreshments also contributed to a fun-packed occasion.

Teams could also elect to use batting or bowling jokers, which would score double or half points respectively for the batting side.

Champions on the day were Weymouth A after their 62-run success over Saggies in the final.

Earlier, the Seasiders’ A team had beaten off competition from the Weymouth B side in the opening 15-over game.

Jack Sapsworth (26) and Dom Webb (43no), who cleared the ropes with a mammoth six over extra cover, contributed to a score of 125-4 with Tim Guyett (2-25) the pick of the A bowlers.

Guyett again took the limelight with an entertaining 52, including an audacious reverse paddle sweep, as Weymouth A cruised to a seven-wicket victory.

In the second semi-final, Cosmos took on Saggies, this time in a 12-over format, with Shafeek Urumancheri’s men making 100-2.

That target was easily chased by Saggies, with Simon Browne (50) and Kieron Womble (48no) the main protagonists in a seven-wicket success, Matt Camp (6no) sealing the win with a six.

The final was again contested through 12 overs and Weymouth A made a blistering start as Harry Mitchell (51) and Lloyd Beals (54) struck boundaries at will.

Both men retired after passing 50, with Neil Walton (32) continuing the assault as the Seasiders’ A outfit posted a swashbuckling 169-1 – Paul Gadsby (1-29) the only bowler to strike.

Saggies had no choice but to attack and lost Camp (4) to Beals (1-10) early on before Nigel Evans (18) was bowled by Luke Lovett.

Lovett (2-20) also dismissed Womble (30), before a promising knock from Browne (29) ended when he lofted a Walton (1-12) delivery to long-on, Saggies eventually totalling 107-3 as Weymouth A landed the trophy.

Weymouth are next in action away to Blandford today (1.30pm),
