DORCHESTER Town chairman Matt Lucas hailed the Magpies’ latest fans’ forum as a “good, constructive meeting”.

A number of topics were discussed on the evening, including a focus on safety after a visit by the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) in November revealed the club had not been in possession of a safety certificate.

The Avenue Stadium was consequently inspected and the club presented with an action plan of 63 hazards and fails to remedy, 95 per cent of which have now been addressed.

Manager Steve Thompson took training on the same night and fans later had the opportunity to put questions to the former Woking number two.

Speaking to Echosport, Lucas felt it had been important to “clear up” uncertainty at the Avenue surrounding matchday safety.

He said: “It was a good, constructive meeting. “It was good to see a good number and it was also good to hopefully clear up a few issues that have been going on around the club, certainly with regards to matchday safety and the work that has to go on behind the scenes in the stadium for us to receive our safety certificate, and different things like that.

“It was good that people had the opportunity to ask any questions. We have obviously have regular meetings with regards to the community benefit society and members of the club in that respect.

“But it’s also important that we do have fans’ forums for the general supporters. In fairness, perhaps we haven’t had quite as many of those. It’s something that we certainly need to do on a more regular basis.”

Last season, Dorchester fans let off flares and crackers in the away end during the Boxing Day derby with Weymouth.

Given discussions on safety and with the latest Ridgeway derby looming at the Terras’ Bob Lucas Stadium on Monday (1pm), Lucas urged Magpies’ fans to “behave and represent the club”.

He said: “We want as much support on Monday as we possibly can get. Everyone looks forward to a Weymouth-Dorchester derby and Monday will be no different.

“Yes, of course, we ask supporters to come along, behave and represent the club and I just ask people to be wary of that, to enjoy their day and support the team from the first minute right to the end.”
