MARTINSTOWN captain Ed Nichols feels the Villagers have a “responsibility” to other sides in the Dorset Funeral Plan Premier League to face title-chasing Poole Town and Wimborne & Colehill with a “winning mentality”.
With two games left, Nichols’ men travel to Poole Park tomorrow (1pm) to meet a Poole team 15 points adrift of the table-topping Minstermen, who Martinstown host in a season finale.
Nichols told Echosport: “We’ve got a responsibility to other sides in the league and the two sides left in contention – we’ll go in with a winning mentality.
“Sometimes when you’ve got that in the back of your mind it’s interesting the impact it can have.
“Poole are a very resilient side, they’re used to being there or thereabouts. With us being between fourth and seventh we probably do have quite a bit to play for.
“We’re still focusing on getting results as well. I’ve seen (Poole) have had some high scores and a couple of umpires said (the pitch) playing pretty well.
“They’ve turned us over three times at home. Batters need to be smart because runs won’t come easily and the bowlers need to be disciplined.”
Lee House, Will Maltby and Jamie Stewart are replaced by Tom Pope, Sam Kershaw and Mike Kennedy-Barnard.
Martinstown: Payne, Kershaw, Williams, Nichols, Andrews, Chase, T Pope, Camp, McNab, Read, Kennedy-Barnard
