PORTLAND United boss Brendon King feels the addition of three defenders to his squad in the run-up to their FA Cup preliminary round clash with Bitton at the Weyline Stadium tomorrow (3pm) is due to “numbers”.

Earlier in the week, Blues’ president Dave Camp called for Portland fans to turn out in force in support of their club, where a win could net £2,890 in prize money as opposed to £960 for losing.

Last season the Blues crashed out at this stage owing to a 3-0 home loss to Paulton Rovers.

But King’s men have been bolstered ahead of the contest, securing Dorchester Town’s Crit Clarke on dual registration terms, defender Steven Walker and ex-Bridport centre-back Alan Hill.

King said: “We’ve been disciplined in the way we’ve set up defensively, that’s everyone as a team, centre-forward all the way back.

“But we were down a little bit number wise. We had seven unavailable (on Saturday) for one reason or another, so we managed to get those boys in.

“(Steven) has signed from Lymington, we transferred him so he’s with us.”

After their FA Cup endeavours, Portland visit Lymington Town in the FA Vase next Saturday (3pm).
