MARNHULL II 181-9 (7pts) lost to WEYMOUTH II 185-5 (19pts) by five wickets

WEYMOUTH Seconds finally broke their winless streak with a well-deserved five-wicket victory at Marnhull Seconds in County Division Five.

The win completed a club double over Marnhull, with the Seasiders' first team also triumphant over the north Dorset side's first XI.

After winning the toss, Marnhull skipper Gary Stockley elected to bat and his decision looked an astute one when he amassed 123 for the first wicket with Christopher Ralph.

However, when Ralph (46) was run out, the Seasiders ran their hosts ragged, Stockley (65) soon becoming the first of four victims for the wily Andy Jeffreys (4-10).

Jeffreys was backed up by the medium pace of Sahil Dalvi (2-30), the duo combining to rapidly erode Marnhull's innings with the help of three run outs.

Thereafter, only George Pearce (14no) reached double figures as the home side closed on 181-9 off 40 overs.

In reply, Weymouth also accrued a century stand for the first wicket as Luke Lovett and Paul Collins steadily took the Seasiders to 108-0.

Collins (57) reached his half-century but was caught off Dan Crockett (2-35), who then bowled Jack Taylor (10).

Lovett (60) also notched his 50 but fell with the score on 155-3, Weymouth requiring just 27 runs for victory.

And they swiftly surpassed their target as Jeffreys (18) and Manoj Somaratne (17no) struck seven boundaries between them to post the second string's maiden success of the campaign.
