BRIDPORT 5

Martin 4, Thomas 14, Latas 17, 84, Wood 82

LEON Wood had a late starring role and Oscar Latas fired in a brace as Bridport eased to a 5-0 win at Hallen in the FA Cup Preliminary Round.

The Bees raced into a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Andy Martin, Leighton Thomas and Latas with just 17 minutes on the clock to ensure a straight-forward progression to the next round.

Tom Richardson and Lee Sweet were unavailable after picking up injuries in the 2-1 defeat to Buckland Athletic in the Toolstation Western Premier Division.

Martin opened the scoring after four minutes when he scored directly from a corner, bending the ball into the far side of the net.

Thomas then added a second for the Bees with just 14 minutes on the clock, after a superb cross from Kameron Andrews allowed him to scramble in from two-yards out.

Three minutes later and Bridport had their third and clear daylight between themselves and Hallen.

Latas powered through the middle of the pitch and played a one-two with Mark Salter before firing coolly past the Hallen goalkeeper.

The scoreline allowed Bridport to take off their captain Louis Rutter and bring on Jamie Barfoot with 20 minutes gone.

Bridport goalkeeper Jason Hutchings was forced into a superb save when Hallen went close from 20-yards out but he remained relatively untroubled.

In the second half Richard Hebditch and Salter went close before 18-year old Wood was introduced for the Bees in place of Hebditch.

Wood then added the Bees’ fourth after 82 minutes with a fantastic strike from 25-yards out.

Wood also proved crucial for Bridport’s fifth when he broke forward and played a great ball across the middle for Latas to strike home unmarked after 84 minutes.

Hallen failed to threaten late on as Bridport saw out their progression through to the first round of FA Cup qualifying.

Fricker said: “We were able to enjoy the game, I think to be perfectly honest the game was won in the first 20 minutes by some great football that the lads played and then we just managed the rest of the game and in the second half it felt quite comfortable, we always felt in control.”

Speaking of Martin, who opened the scoring, Fricker said: “He has got such great quality with his left foot and we always work on trying to hit that back post and that is what he did.”

Bridport: Hutchings, Andrews, Martin, Rutter (Barfoot 20), McGrath, Symes, Latas, Peach, Thomas, Salter, Hebditch (Wood 65). Sub not used: Fricker
