DORCHESTER Town manager Steve Thompson admits the Magpies need a “big response” against Hartley Wintney tomorrow (3pm) following their 5-0 thrashing by arch-rivals Weymouth on Monday.

Thompson’s men host the Row at the Clayson Stadium in their sixth Evo-Stik Southern Premier South contest of the season, having picked up just one victory all campaign.

Dorchester’s boss also raised the possibility of bringing in new players, such was his disappointment at the manner of the Ridgeway derby defeat.

He told Echosport: “Our shortcomings were well and truly exposed. There’s a big job ahead for me and the players.

“We do need a big response. I also have to look at (us) as a club, are we able to bring in players?

“There’s got to be serious misgivings, we’ve only picked up four points from five games, it’s a poor start.

“There will be serious misgivings that we’ve got a squad of players here that are able to even compete and stay out of the bottom four.”

Thompson said his side would target points home and away but admitted home games provide the Magpies with a “better chance”.

He said: “We’ve got to perform home and away, that was a big problem last year. The one win we’ve had has been away. “At home you should have a better chance and there’s no excuses about our 3G pitch. We play and train on it more than the teams that come and play us do.”

Defensive duo Ross Carmichael and Neil Martin are both doubts after suffering a recurrence of respective thigh and groin injuries against Weymouth.
