THE GEORGE Inn came through a frantic finale to beat Motatec at Portland Town’s annual end-of-season PTFC Inter League final at Cranford Avenue.

The George Inn faced off against Motatec, managed by Rich Johnson, who finished the group stage unbeaten and firm favourites.

Johnson’s side made the best possible start to the game when Ben Sabine opened the scoring when he lobbed Jamie West in the George goal to hand Motatec a perfect start.

It was soon to be 2-0 when Rich Limm clinbed well to head home after a pin-point corner from Motatec’s Alex Crawley.

Sabine made it 3-0 to Motatec on the half-hour mark after some great work from Jethro Tennant who set Sabine free for his second.

It could have been four shortly after but Motatec skipper George Higgins had his spot-kick saved by the impressive West.

It remained 3-0 at the break with Alex Counter at the other end having the best of the George’s chances.

The George then soon gathered momentum and the comeback was on when a penalty was slotted in by Matt Dunlop past Motatec goalkeeper Dan Quinault.

Craig Coles chased everything down and it was his ball that set up Counter who coolly placed his shot into the bottom right-hand corner for 3-2 just moments later.

Liam Puckett then made the comeback complete just five minutes later to make it 3-3.

Counter gave his George side the lead for the first time with his second with 20 minutes to play.

Colin Upfold put the game beyond Motatec when he made it 5-3 but there was a tense finale as Dave Chadwick pulled one back late on for Motatec to make it 5-4.

However, the George held firm and manager Danny James went home with the trophy.
