ELLIOTT Banks-Browne went home with the Pro Class trophy as the first ever staging of the Steel Hawk Motorcycle Club’s “Rock it ‘til Sundown” Midweek Motocross Classic went down a storm at Tincleton.

With a host of big name stars combined with some of the best local, and national young talent, the event attracted a fantastic crowd, in what was the first time a motocross event of this scale has been run in the county for more than 40 years.

Two-time British champion Banks-Browne thrilled the crowd with his big air and immense speed and went home with the £1,200 winner’s cheque and the huge Bob Lewis Trophy, courtesy of event sponsors CJT Mechanical Engineering Services.

Behind him were Honda’s huge young talent Josh Gilbert in second and Jake Shipton beat a whole field of top line pro racers for third.

In the 65cc Junior class, Shaftesbury youngster Ben Sullivan rode fantastically for fourth overall, while Poole rider Travis Barnes finished fifth.

Another local racer, Harrison Greenough, sped through for third in the Small Wheel 85s.

Corfe Castle’s Jude Morris was one of the stand-out performers of the day.

Morris showed huge talent to come home with the Big Wheel 85 win ahead of some of the best young talent the nation had to throw at him.

Weymouth’s Callum Gordon was hugely unlucky in the Rookie 250 group.

After winning his first race, and coming second in his second event, a win in his final outing would have seen him land the title.

However, a big crash saw his chances of victory dashed and he ended the day in sixth.

Weymouth did see a rider on the podium in this class however.

Travis Reynolds rode well all day long and claimed a superb third place.

Another talented local rider, Vinnie Guthrie, who has only stepped up into this group, finished a very credible sixth in the Rookie 125 class.

Dorset hero Terry House could not be stopped in the Vets group and fended off Ferndown’s Steve Elford for the victory.

The Adult A class was packed full of top riders with Ferndown’s Josh Bunter being the best of the Dorset massive with fifth.

Weymouth’s Sam Lycett finished an excellent ninth in a 36-rider field.

All in all, the event was a huge success and plans are already underway for the 2019 staging.
