DORCHESTER Town midfielder Harry Kite has challenged the Magpies to earn “back-to-back” results and rid themselves of an “inconsistent” start to the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South campaign.

Dorchester have won and drawn one game, but lost the other three in picking up just four points from their opening five league games.

Kite, 18, was signed on a six-month loan deal from Exeter City, where he is contracted to until June 2019. After making just one appearance for City’s senior side, the midfield man is the latest Grecian to have joined Dorchester after defenders Jordan Storey and Kyle Egan, plus midfielder Archie Collins.

Speaking after the Magpies were thumped 5-0 by Weymouth, Kite called for his side to “pick our heads up”.

He told Echosport: “We’ve had a few good games and we feel like we performed well (against Kings Langley) on Saturday. We’re not happy about the Weymouth result and the first game that I was unfortunate to miss because of concussion.

“We feel we just need to be more consistent. Weymouth was far, far from our best and we’re very disappointed with the result, but we need to pick our heads up and go again.

“We’ve had quite an inconsistent start and I feel we just need to get good back-to-back results to try and give us a bit more confidence.”

Kite missed late pre-season and the 1-0 loss to Met Police after sustaining concussion in a 5-1 friendly defeat to Winchester.

He said: “It’s part of the game. I can’t remember anything about it. You’ve got to take FA protocols, so that was a week without doing anything and then another four days.

“I played 45 minutes against Wimborne – it is what it is, you can’t do anything about it.”

Since joining the Magpies, who host Hartley Wintney today (3pm), Kite felt he had “fitted in” well at the Clayson Stadium.

He said: “I feel like I’ve settled in really well. There’s obviously a few players that I know, so Kyle used to be at Exeter and Callum Rose used to be at Plymouth.

“There’s a few other loan lads here as well, so I feel like I’ve fitted in well with a good group of lads. I’m really happy with how I’ve mixed in with the group.”

Kite also revealed he is relishing the task of playing men’s football, as opposed to the youth and academy game.

He said: “I’ve played against Weymouth in pre-season but I haven’t had the chance to play any League Two games.

“The difference between what I’ll get at Exeter and what I’ll get (at Dorchester) is just playing men’s football.

“It’s just getting used to what it’s like, the dirty side, the gritty side, playing in front of 2,000 fans giving you abuse, which you don’t get at under-18s football with a few hundred there.

“So I think it’s just getting used to the game and I think that’s the whole reason they put me on loan to get me used to football because League Two is like that, and just getting used to the style of play.”

Commenting on the qualities of Kite, Magpies’ boss Steve Thompson said the teenager is already an “accomplished” player.

He said: “I’ve brought Harry in, who although only 18 is a very accomplished player and gives us something that we don’t really have.”
