DORCHESTER Town boss Steve Thompson admitted that it was not the perfect performance but said it was a good boost to see his side come from behind to beat Hartley Wintney 2-1 in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.

Goals from Harry Kite and Ashley Pope handed the Magpies all three points after an early Claudio Herbert goal put Hartley ahead.

Thompson said: “I was very pleased with the effort that everyone put in but like I said I am not going to sit here and say it was a perfect performance.

“ It is a good boost that we need before we go into the FA Cup game.”

The Magpies had a difficult start to the season, winning once in their opening five matches but played aggressively with some wonderfully created moves to see them inflict a first defeat of the season on their opponents.

Thompson said: “We certainly needed a win and we did it the hard way going behind after two minutes but we showed good character and played some good football.”

Thompson made particular reference to the youth of his squad in light of the victory but said his side probably deserved the win.

“I am not going to sit here and say that we have got the answers to everything but there is a team out there today who gave their lot and the oldest player is 25.

“Most of them are 19, 20, 21.

“It is a tough league for a very young team to go out and play in. We are finding that but It was a long way from it but I thought we probably deserved the win.”

Thompson admitted his side probably rode their luck a little bit in the opening period, where Dorchester Town goalkeeper Kingsley Latham made a superb penalty save from Michael Campbell.

Thompson said: “Kingsley had to make a great penalty save so we rode our luck a little bit in those first 20 minutes when we could have gone two down but came back strongly in the second part of the first half. We started the second half very well but tired in the last 10 or 15 minutes. I am just pleased that we have won the game.

“He (Latham) made another great save with his feet in the first half and he came and got a couple of good crosses where he has got a touch on.” Thompson praised debutant Tiago Sa for his role, as he started and played the whole match after signing on a one-month loan deal from Weymouth on Friday, and also praised Cameron Murray for his performance.

“Tiago had a good debut.

“To win a game I think most players have played pretty well there.

“I do not think anyone has played poorly, I think Ash (Pope) found it hard to get into the game in the second half and that is why we made the substitutions.

“He (Pope) needs a goal. That is the first goal from our central striker this season so we needed that.

“He (Murray) is always industrious and he has got three goals this season.”
