DORCHESTER Town attacking midfielder Cameron Murray has described his experience with the Magpies as “spot on” so far.

Murray, who has predominantly been used as a left-sided winger at Dorchester, can also play through the middle in a number 10 role.

The Yorkshireman, 23, has had spells at York City, FC United of Manchester and Scarborough Athletic and was on the books with the likes of Leeds United and Bradford City in his youth career.

In an interview with Echosport, Murray, who has scored three goals in four appearances, felt Dorchester had been “welcoming” since he came to the club.

He said: “It’s been good. It’s different coming down here because I’m from up north, so the football’s different and the league’s different.

“I’ve come in and the lads have been great, the club’s been welcoming, so it’s been spot on, I’ve enjoyed it.”

Asked what the main differences between northern and southern football were, Murray said: “Well, first of all getting used to the 3G pitch, it’s just different in general.

“I’ve played the league below quite a lot of last season and I moved up. It’s a bit more erratic, the football’s quicker, the tempo. Apart from that I’ve settled in.”

One similarity Murray did draw on was the fans, the Halifax-born player going on to praise the Magpies’ supporters.

He said: “(FC United and Scarborough) are both big clubs with a lot of fans.

“The fans have been great here so far, so hopefully that can continue and we can get some wins.”

Commenting on his brace against Kings Langley, the modest Murray said: “The goals are good, it’s good to come in and get off to a goalscoring start.”

Murray’s performances have not gone unnoticed by boss Steve Thompson, who made positive remarks after the 4-2 win at Wimborne.

He said: “Cameron came in, did a great job on the left, scored the first goal and was constantly in the game getting on the ball.”

On his double against Lango, Thompson added: “I was pleased for Cameron to score two goals because he’s been excellent since he came into the team after the first game.

“He makes good runs, out to in, but he’s also confident on the ball when he gets it out wide. When he actually came he said he prefers playing central and I can use that at times.

“But he’s doing such a good job in that left-sided role. He’s certainly not a winger, he’s more than that. He’s doing the sort of stuff that Sterling does for Man City, he’s trying to do that for us.

Murray revealed he has high targets for Dorchester this season, believing the Magpies should look “high” at a play-off tilt.

He said: “I think we’ve got to look for the play-offs, we’ve got to push on. You’ve got to set your standards high, work hard, take each game as it comes and I think we’ll be alright.”
