DORCHESTER SPORTS 3

DORCHESTER Sports produced a fantastic first-half performance scoring three times to take all three points with Jamie Samways starring upon his return from injury in the Dorset Premier League.

Sports were able to welcomed back keeper Antony Frost and he made a a great start with a point-blank save early on to deny the hosts going in front but from then on Sports were on top.

Dorchester had Samways back from injury and the Sports’ creator from midfield did not take long long to set his team on their way.

Firstly, his corner found the head of Jason Read to give Sports the lead, then his cross found Jamie Quinton who headed his second goal for the club.

Gareth Will’s 35-yard chip over the keeper hit the post and then Will found himself one-on-one with the keeper but he blazed over from close-range.

However, Samways did add the third before the break with a

30-yard screamer that moved

and dipped to find the top

corner.

Sports started the second half a bit sluggishly and were punished from a short corner that was well worked and finished by Jamie Minette to give the hosts a lifeline but Sports stepped it up and had chances to add to their tally.

Read hit the bar from another header from a Samways’ corner and Ryan Ross had two good chances to score his first goal for the club but both were well saved as both teams battled to the end on a very hot day with Sports winning 3-1.

Sports’ manager Ashley James admitted the win was needed, having had three defeats in a row prior to Wednesday’s 3-2 victory against Corfe Castle.

James said: “It was very much needed.

“The last two games it did not really matter how we got them we just needed to win these next two games (against Corfe and Wareham) and we have managed to do that. We have scored a few goals and defensively we have looked better.

“It could not have got any worse than the three defeats in a row unfortunately. We knew we had a good chance against Corfe and Wareham but you never know.

The confidence was low going into Corfe Castle.”

Sports are next in action against Balti Sports in the Dorset Premier League Cup on Saturday (3pm).
