BERE REGIS 170 (7pts) lost to POOLE TOWN 216-8 (19pts) by 46 runs

BERE Regis saw their season come to a close with a defeat at home to title-chasing Poole Town in the Dorset Funeral Plan Premier Division

Poole were in with a shot of winning the title but Wimborne’s result at Martinstown ensured that any victory for them was in vain.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, but initially had a tough start when Robin Lutman (3) was bowled by Richard Payne.

However, they soon found their rhythm as Badrul Alam (42) and Tom Richardson (25) put together a 47-run partnership to boost them to 54-1 before the latter was caught and bowled by David Griffiths.

Richard Cole then dismissed other opener Alam, catching him from a Garry King delivery, with Poole on 81 before Cole struck again by trapping Ciaran Quinn (5) lbw.

This introduced Lewis Marais (31) who edged his side to 147 before he was bowled by Dean Rogerson.

Joe Wormington enjoyed a superb innings of 71 before he was caught by Robert Murphy from a Matt King delivery with Poole now on 197-6.

Poole ended their innings on 216-8.

In reply, Bere posted 25 runs before opener Richard Payne (15) was bowled by Joseph Palmer.

Matt King then fell to a catch from David Miller, while Rob Cole was run out as Bere were frustrated at 48-3. However, they managed to move on to 80-3 before Robert Murphy was trapped lbw by Andy Groome.

Disaster then struck when Bere lost three wickets while posting just nine runs as the finish line suddenly looked rather distant at 110-8.

A 52-run partnership between Rogerson and Richard Cole then dragged it back in sight by putting them on 162 runs before the former was bowled by Quinn.

Bere struggled to add many runs after this however, as they were bowled out for 170.

After the match, Bere captain Rich Cole said: “We started the game with nothing to play for asides from just enjoying the game and that is exactly what we did, to be honest.

“We bowled at times quite well, we varied it around. Myself and Garry King managed to get some overs in which was nice.

“Other than that they batted really well, they set themselves a good platform and it was a shame they did not get to the 220 but we knew they were after the 220 to get the maximum points and we just made them fight for it.”
