WEYMOUTH’S Carly Lawes and Luke Tolman have been invited to represent the UK in the coming weeks in some of the world’s leading strength and physique competitions.

Lawes and Tolman, who are both personal trainers at New Body Fitness in Weymouth, qualified earlier this year in powerlifting competitions which gave them the opportunity to be invited to these international events.

Tolman will be representing Team GB at the Arnold Classic Europe in Barcelona on September 28-30 where he will be aiming to break the IPF junior bench press world record, having already broken the British record of 205.5kg earlier this year.

Tolman said: “I’m really looking forward to competing in Spain, my goal is to break the world record and win my weight class. Big thanks to Nick at New Body for sponsoring me and all the strength team for their continued support.”

Lawes will be travelling to Las Vegas to compete in the Olympia Competition this month which is the most prestigious strength and bodybuilding competition in the world.

Lawes will be lifting in the deadlift event at the US Powerlifting Association meet on September 14.

Qualifying in the deadlift at the Bodypower Championships in May where she had to lift 150kg to qualify, Lawes surpassed this total with a huge 162.5kg giving her a safe pass to the Las Vegas event.

Lawes said: “Attending the Olympia contest has always been a dream of my since I started training five years ago but to actually compete there is something that I never thought would happen.

“Training has been great but intense and I can’t wait to represent the UK next month.

“Big thanks to the great support network I have at the club for continuing to push me.”

Lawes and Tolman are both in the final stages of preparation for their events and are training six days a week at New Body Fitness to make sure they bring their best performances next month.
