DORCHESTER Town manager Steve Thompson says he is under no illusions and warns that if the Magpies have a repeat performance of their second-half showing on Saturday that his side will go out of the FA Cup in the first qualifying round tonight against Wimborne at the Clayson Stadium (7.45pm).

Dorchester earned the replay when Callum Rose equalised with one of the last touches of the game after Toby Holmes put Wimborne ahead in the 87th minute.

Thompson said: “I am under no illusions, if we played like we did in the second half then we will be going out of the FA Cup, it is as simple as that.”

The prize for Dorchester should they win will be a trip to Evo-Stik Southern Premier South high-fliers Tiverton Town after the draw was made yesterday.

Thompson, when asked if he will make changes ahead of the tie, said: “I will have to look at that, there are a few walking wounded.

“Ross Carmichael came off injured, Ash Pope took a massive whack on his knee. Luke Winsper took a whack on his hip.”

Reflecting upon Saturday’s match, which saw Tom Blair sent off in the 65th minute after receiving a second yellow card for kicking the ball away, Thompson bemoaned the second half performance.

Thompson said: “I told the players that we were absolutely awful in the second half.

“We were bashing the ball up top with very little hope and very little intelligence or quality.”

However, Thompson pointed out the late nature of the Wimborne goal and highlighted his side’s character to hang in and get the draw in the end.

Thompson said: “But we talked about the FA Cup before we started the game and said that sometimes you have to hang in there if things are not going well and we did hang in there and to be fair their goal was very late, four minutes before the end.

“It was a right kick, we already had the kick in the teeth from Tom Blair’s needless sending off and then we had a kick in the teeth with the goal in the 86th minute so to come back shows a bit of character.”
