WEYMOUTH & Portland coach Simon Litster is “quietly confident” about the Seahorses’ chances of beating Bridport in their Wadworth 6X Dorset & Wilts One South derby at the Brewery Ground tomorrow (3pm).

Litster’s men took a resounding 51-17 victory over Bournemouth Thirds on the opening day of the season, while an under-strength Bridport were thrashed 96-0 by Swanage & Wareham.

In the previous campaign, the corresponding fixture saw the Blues take a tense 28-25 win over the Seahorses, and Litster is cautious with Bridport twice having beaten his charges last season.

He told Echosport: “They did the double over us last year, but they’ve had a difficult first outing. I’d say that gives the boys a little more resolve.

“We’ll focus on the opposition on the day. Bridport are never easy, but we’re quietly confident.

“The players can take a lot of positives with them from the Bournemouth game. We’ve now got a bit of competition in certain positions.

“Players are thinking ‘we need to play’ to hold their place, which is a healthy position to be in. It’s nice to have that feeling.”

Litster added that the derby could be an indicator as to whether his team has moved forward.

He said: “We’re looking forward to the Bridport game. We’d probably prefer it to be at home but that’s the way the cookie crumbles. We’ll go there and I’m sure go for the win.

“(The players will) look forward to going out and putting into practice what we’ve been doing in the summer. It’s really testing us to see if we’ve moved on from last season.”

The Seahorses have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the clash.
