WEYMOUTH Social Volleyball League is set to host an open night tomorrow ahead of the league restarting on Wednesday, September 26.

The night, at Weymouth College, will see team training with coaches and introductions where any new players can come along and find a team to play with.

The league matches will then commence a week later.

There will be three divisions and there are 10 teams currently but the league is looking for more teams to enter into the league as well as for people to come and join existing teams.

The three divisions will be divided into ability but the leagues are for people of all ages to come and join.

Prior to each session, which will be on Wednesday nights at Weymouth College, there will be a coaching and training session to start.

The focus is on social competitive sport and the league run a promotion and relegation system throughout the leagues.

There is a handicap system in place to help weaker teams compete.

The league was formed two years ago and since then the leagues have built up and up and now they have gone from five teams to 10 teams and are looking grow and promote it and increase volleyball participation across the nearby area.

The league follow a system called ERIC, which stands for Enjoy, R for respect, I for improve and C for compete.

Serita Shone, who is on the committee for the league, said: “What we want to do is make people healthier and happier in both mind and body and give them an outlet for support, meet people, learn something new or play something that they already know in a friendly environment that is not overly competitive but also is not under competitive.“Whether you have never picked up a ball before and you just want to pick up a new sport to get healthy or whether you are an ex-international athlete there is something there for you.”
