SHILLINGSTONE’S Andrew Forsyth took a double victory as the final three car meetings at Wiscombe Park saw plenty of on-course excitement as the season came to a conclusion with many drivers being mindful of their positions in the numerous championships as well as their intent to win individual classes or the events outright.

It was the latter category that occupied Shilllingston driver Andrew Forsyth in the single-seater racing car class.

Good track conditions enabled competitive times and the OMS CF04 pilot utilised every single brake horse power from his Suzuki engine to claim a brace of victories in the first two events of the month with a best time of 37.09 seconds.

In the most recent event Forsyth re-joined battle against Ben Wheeler with his newer and lighter Empire Evo2, the verdict going in the latter’s favour when the Kilmington driver clocked a time of 36.70 seconds to post the fastest competitive climb of the season leaving Forsyth with the class victory having ascended the 915 metre track in 37.27 seconds.

Weymouth driver John Kirby fired home two consistent performances in the Downton Motor Club class with his turbo-charged one-litre Mini Clubman to claim runner-up placings against the lighter and more powerful spaceframe Maguire Mini Cooper ‘S’ of Derek Kessell.

Classic Marques Speed Challenge competitor Alan Davies took a third-place finish on handicap with his mighty TVR Griffith, the design manager from Dorchester hustling his machine to the top of the course in a best time of 46.84 seconds.

Enjoying a family battle in the Road-Going Series Production Car class were Weymouth brother and sister pairing Debbie and Geoff Blake.

Geoff, having to become accustomed to the lack of power from the Peugeot 106 Rallye compared to that of the two-litre Vauxhall, had to give best to his sibling with Debbie claiming second in class with a climb of 51.99 seconds.

Rod Thorne concluded his season on four wheels at Wiscombe Park with a win over the 2.3-litre supercharged Honda-powered Sylva Striker of Doug Bennett.

Both long standing competitors and regular adversaries in the Sports Libre class it was the Frampton garage proprietor who set the pace with his five-litre Rover V8 powered Pilbeam MP43 sports racer taking an emphatic win by three seconds.

Honours in the rally car class went to the rapid combination of Tim Porter and his two-litre Darrian T90 defeating a selection of Minis and Ford Escorts to claim the spoils of victory with a time of 44.45 seconds.

Although the hill climb season is now complete there remains one further event at Wiscombe Park this year when the Lombard Bath Rally Tour makes a visit on the morning of Saturday, October 20.

Although not a competitive rally, this tour-type event celebrates a classic era of rallying and visits many of the stages included in the 1976 Lombard RACX Rally which started in Bath.

A full entry of over 100 cars includes star drivers such as Stig Blomqvist (World Rally Champion in 1984 and runner-up the following year), double British Rally Championship drivers Russell Brookes and David Llewellin plus Jimmy McRae, Rosemary Smith, Graham Elsmore, Tony Fowkes and the first ever Ladies World Rally Champion, Louise Aitken-Walker MBE.

Just as much of an attraction as the drivers will be the cars of course with the likes of the iconic Mk1 and Mk2 Ford Escorts, some of which will be original, Audi Quattros, an Alpine Renault and an Triumph TR7V8 among others.
