GEORGE Skellern came out on top of a great battle with James Phillips in Division One at Lyme Regis Golf Club’s president’s prize medal competition.

The tournament prompted a good turnout where Skellern and Phillips were level at six under par, but the top spot went to Skellern after three gross birdies in his steady round of nett 65.

Phillips had started with a nett eagle on the first hole but in the end just lost out on countback.

Division Two saw Ben Prosser score the best round of the day, a nett 64, as he put together a back nine of nett 31 to earn a handicap reduction.

Second and third place was a tussle between Mark Lewis and Richard Emm as both scored nett 70, but a better back nine saw Lewis take silver.

The seniors’ September Stableford gave Patrick Duke top spot in Division One as he capitalised on a gross birdie on the fourth hole to accelerate his scoring on the back nine in his 39 points.

After a superb start, Geoff Richmond was left close to finish second on 38 points while David Binns had a better back nine to finish third on 37.

Division Two produced the best score of the day as Tim Sansom amassed 44 points to finish first.

However, Richard Stubbs was only a point behind having romped through the first nine with 23 points to just slip back to end on 43.

Lyme Regis seniors, appeared in the final of the Knighton Heath knock out for the first time against Bramshaw, and emerged as victors by 6½ to 3½.

Captain Arthur Daines saw his squad play consistently well throughout the campaign.

The ladies’ September medal was won by Anne Humphreys in Division One, as she birdied two consecutive holes and nett birdied the tricky 16th to finish on level par.

Jill Swainson finished a shot behind in second, while a shot further back was Judith Page.

With the best score of the day Carol Watson won Division Two with 71.

With a level par score of 74 apiece Mary Minter just pipped Amy Mudford to second place.

Anne Humphreys also won the grannie cup and the silver scratch cup, and Mary Minter won the bronze scratch cup.
