HENDON 3

DORCHESTER Town were punished for a mundane performance as three second-half goals gave Hendon a 3-0 win at the Clayson Stadium in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.

Ricardo German bagged a penalty and a second from a tight angle either side of Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick’s tidy finish.

A poor Magpies’ side saw their best effort come on 16 minutes when Kyle Egan hit the post.

Dorchester Town boss Steve Thompson made two changes to the starting XI that kicked-off the 2-0 FA Cup loss to Tiverton Town last time out, goalkeeper Mike Edgar earning his first start with fellow glovemen Kingsley Latham and Alhaji Sesay missing out through internal bleeding and a one-game suspension respectively.

Luke Winsper took the number nine shirt as Tom Blair dropped to the bench alongside Ben Morris, who scored his first goal for Bridport in the Bees’ 10-0 thrashing of Bristol Telephones in midweek.

In a largely lamentable first half, Dorchester carried the greater threat and this was evidenced in the early stages when Aaron Rodriguez seized upon a loose ball to play in Tiago Sa on the left channel.

Sa’s cross was too deep but found Cameron Murray on the right who in turn supplied Kyle Egan, the right-back skipping past three Hendon defenders before seeing his cross headed away.

Dorchester continued to press and Billy Lowes’ hard work was rewarded when he nipped in front of the Greens’ centre-halves to win possession and draw a foul 18 yards out, only to see Murray harmlessly curl the set-piece over.

Hendon’s best moment of the opening half came shortly afterwards when German, the league’s second-top scorer prior to kick-off, laid the ball off to Matty Newman, who curled inches wide of Edgar’s far post.

Dorchester worked what was to prove their closest encounter with the visitors’ goal on 16 minutes when hitting the far post.

Sa swung a lovely ball towards Murray, narrowly out of reach for the winger, but Egan was on hand to call for possession, twist into the box and flash a shot against Danny Boness’ far upright.

Egan’s effort briefly unsettled the Greens and some panicked defending ensued when Murray quickly took a corner and crossed to Luke Winsper. Hendon miscued their clearance, falling to the Magpies’ man but his shot ricocheted clear.

Hendon were content to play a high line and caught Dorchester offside four times in the first half. However, their defensive unit was dealt a blow on 40 minutes when Guri Demuria hobbled off after racing back to clear a ball over the top.

The Greens should have done better when Hippolyte-Patrick skirted around Neil Martin but his low ball across was vitally cut off by a sliding Callum Rose in the last action of the half.

After such a poor 45 minutes the match dramatically improved with immediate effect in the second period as Winsper chased a ball down the right before superbly picking out the unmarked Rodriguez to head well wide from 10 yards.

Hippolyte-Patrick was correctly booked for simulation before he had a hand in Hendon’s opening goal. On the run, he was fouled from behind by Sa inside the box for a penalty that German converted, although Edgar thumped his thigh in frustration after diving over the central and weak spot-kick.

Hendon were suddenly jolted into life and when German outmuscled Rose to stride through on goal he was thwarted by Edgar, who stood up well to make an excellent one-on-one save.

Dorchester wasted another set-play, Rose hitting the wall and Martin lifting the ball out of play from a free-kick, before Hendon doubled their lead.

Having been gifted the ball in the final third by Egan, German raced forward and slipped in Hippolyte-Patrick, who calmly slotted home on 66 minutes.

Rodriguez was then clipped 19 yards out, substitute Tom Blair spurning another free-kick when he fired his well-struck effort over the bar.

With six minutes remaining Hendon had their third. A timid Dorchester defence herded German to the right corner of the six-yard box but the striker, given space, still powered an effort past Edgar into the far corner for his ninth league goal this season.

Powerhouse German should have claimed a hat-trick when cutting back six yards out, but swept his attempt wide as a toothless Magpies side survived conceding a fourth after delivering a dismal display.
