DORCHESTER Ladies played a fine season of bowls this summer with some notable achievements for both representative club teams and individuals.

At a club level, Dorchester Gold finished top of the Western Division of the Edna Paisley League which earned them a place in the final, where they got the better of Blandford, the winners of the Eastern Division, to claim consecutive Edna Paisley trophies.

In the Dorset County League, Dorchester B finished off an excellent season in Division Two where they finished in first place, just four points clear of Wimborne who slipped to a 8-2 defeat to Wellworthy in their final fixture and Dorchester B will now join Dorchester A in Division One.

Dorchester bowlers also performed admirably in county competitions.

In the Mixed Fours final, Margaret Cullip, Sue Maggs, Howard King and Peter Elins faced tough opposition in the final in the shape of T Allman, A Allman, A Weech and P Weech from Lyme Regis but the Dorchester quartet played superbly to claim the title.

In a very competitive County Pairs final, the county town’s Eve Peavoy and Barbara Redpath fell to defeat against Leake and Cresswell who eventually came through to secure the crown.

At the end of a suitably competitive Dorset County final of the Benevolent Triples Knockout, Hilary Wilson, Linda Hill and Margaret Cullip finished as Dorset champions with Sylvia Lawley, Joan Narraway and Julie Corbin finishing as honourable runners-up.
