Poole win 4-2 on pens

DORCHESTER Town were knocked out of the City Security Services League Challenge Cup 4-2 on penalties by Poole Town as goalkeeper Ben Rolleston proved the hero, saving Callum Thompson’s spot-kick.

Tom Blair had given the Magpies a first-half lead before Korrey Henry levelled.

Dorchester made three changes to the starting line-up that began the 3-0 loss to Hendon on Saturday, with Callum Rose, Tiago Sa and Mike Edgar replaced by Dom Panesar-Dower, Tom Blair and Alhaji Sesay.

Poole’s matchday squad contained no fewer than five former Magpies in Franklyn Clarke, Steve Devlin, Ollie Balmer, Jake Smeeton and Steve Richardson, but their former side were in the ascendancy in the first minute as Mark Jamison bravely blocked a Dom Panesar-Dower chance after parrying Blair’s fierce cross.

Panesar-Dower had another excellent chance five minutes later but the Dolphins’ defence blocked the dallying midfielder’s effort.

Devlin’s delivery from corners troubled the Magpies but it was the hosts who opened the scoring when Cameron Murray’s silky run past three defenders enabled him to supply Blair 12 yards out, the winger slotting home with ease.

Rolleston was called into action again when saving a one-on-one as Poole survived into the interval.

In a much-improved start to the second half, Poole saw two chances come and go for Henry until Balmer slipped the Yeovil loanee in allowing him to slot past Sesay.

A gorgeous pass from Luke Winsper put Panesar-Dower clean through but the midfielder dragged his shot wide of the far post.

The magnificent Harry Kite, who threatened Poole throughout, forced the impenetrable Rolleston into another good save with a swerving low drive before the shoot-out.

Poole’s Sam Griffin and Clarke netted the opening spot-kicks but Murray and Panesar-Dower levelled for the hosts.

Korrey Henry tucked his away for 3-2 before the on-fire Rolleston saved from Kite.

And, when Balmer scored Poole’s fourth, Thompson was unable to score as Rolleston produced the goods again to send Poole through.
