DORCHESTER’S Lulworth team had their worst ever start to an Ability Counts League campaign losing both of their opening fixtures to DAG Dynamos and Wimborne respectively.

Dorchester’s first game against Wimborne kicked off and they seemed to lack confidence in midfield.

A long ball up from the Wimborne goalkeeper found its way to their striker, who then laid the ball off to an incoming Luke Robinson who placed the ball first time into the top left corner despite Dorchester’s Benny Croad getting a touch.

Wimborne’s lead doubled soon after.

Captain Liam Thorne struck a free-kick from outside the box, low and with such tenacity that it left both the wall and Croad in disbelief when it went in as neither could stop the effort.

Dorchester tried to find a reply with Dan Williamson leading the charge.

Willamson ran down the wing before firing in a shot from range but the bar came to the rescue for the Cuthbury-based side, as their effort looped over the goalkeeper to safety.

The second half started just as badly as the first for Dorchester and a switch in goalkeeper did not bring good fortune.

Thorne skipped through midfield before slotting it to Luke Robinson, who bagged his brace with a chip over goalkeeper Jordan Pitman who was already committed.

Long-range efforts from Dorchester were all that could be managed in the second half as Wimborne had the game under control.

Wimborne got their fourth and final goal from another set-piece, with Luke Coakes catching Pitman off guard at his front post from a tight angle as Wimborne ran out 4-0 winners.

Coach Jason Brookes thought a sluggish start hindered Dorchester’s chances to get a positive result from the game.

Dorchester’s second game came against DAG Dynamos.

The Magpies almost conceded an early goal when two passes inside the box found a DAG striker who tried to poke the ball in.

The tame effort hit the post but was a warning sign for Dorchester.

The county town side seemed to look better after this as Kieran Pitman nearly opened proceedings, but the strike with his left foot ricocheted off of the post.

Pitman hit the same post again moments later, but DAG came back in the second half though and Pitman saved a shot from between his legs.

This led to a sharp spell of pressure as he pulled off another save when DAG’s number six fired the ball to Pitman’s right, forcing a dramatic save with his palm, before clearing away the resulting corner.

Set-pieces seemed to be Dorchester’s undoing.

This weakness showed when DAG’s number two placed a free-kick around both wall and goalkeeper into the top right of the goal.

This goal completely changed the game and Dorchester looked lethargic, losing the ball easily from misplaced passes in defence.

Their lacklustre display was capped off when an unchallenged DAG midfielder passed it to an open striker who was through on goal and he knocked the ball past Jordan Pitman.

A late surge from Scott Rice looked promising, as his powerful run through the Dynamos from the halfway line had everything bar the finish as his shot dragged wide as the match finished 2-0 to DAG Dynamos.

DAG’s fixture against Wimborne ended 0-0, meaning Dorchester are now four points behind both their rivals.

Dorchester’s Durdle Door team had mixed results, losing 2-1 to Dexter’s Sports before they beat Parley Sports in a professional performance as they won 3-0.
