WEYMOUTH hope to continue their winning start this weekend as they take on Cardiff Celts in the National Cup at Redlands Community Sports Hub tomorrow (12.45pm).

Weymouth go into this weekend’s cup match as the underdogs for the encounter as they take on Division One’s Celts with a potential place in the third round on offer.

The two sides met last year in the National Shield which saw the Celts come out on top.

The up-and-coming Weymouth team do however, rate their chances in this match.

The Weymouth team feel they have come a long way from the performance they put in 10 months ago.

Recent performances have shown that the Seasiders are in good form.

Weymouth have won all three of their games so far this season and all of their matches were against more experienced opposition.

Team captain Ryan Stout said: “We have played some good volleyball so far this season but are capable of much more.

“If we can play to our full potential, without clusters of mistakes, then we will continue our winning start.”

The team tested their mettle on Monday night when they went to join Wessex Volleyball Club, one of the best teams in the country, for an intense training session in preparation ahead of this weekend’s match.

Player/Coach Sean Hendry said: “The training session was a great opportunity for our players to gain experience of the game at a higher level and should be helpful for us when taking on Cardiff on Sunday.”

Victory would see Weymouth take on Wessex, this time in a competitive format, in the next round of the National Cup in November.

This would be an exciting opportunity for everyone involved with the club given the history of the two Dorset sides.
