DORCHESTER Town manager Steve Thompson admitted match-winning winger Cameron Murray was far from in top form despite scoring the winner in the Magpies’ 2-1 victory at Basingstoke Town.

Murray struck in the 93rd minute to complete a remarkable comeback for Thompson’s men, who struggled with injuries and availability for the fixture.

Dorchester also had Aaron Rodriguez to thank for cancelling out Jack McKnight’s 66th-minute opener for the Dragons.

Murray’s goal was his fourth in the league this season and the slippery winger is Dorchester’s top scorer in the campaign, having also bagged goals against Wimborne and Kings Langley.

Commenting on Murray and Rodriguez, the latter now having scored in consecutive league away games, Thompson told Echosport: “He’s done well, he probably didn’t have his best game, Cameron.

“He’s done well since he’s come here and popped up with the winning goal.

“(On Friday) I thought Aaron was the eighth player out. He wasn’t feeling well at all and I feared the worst.

“He wasn’t a hundred per cent but he recovered enough to play in the game and he did a good job.

“He managed to last 90 minutes, which I was very surprised with.

“I didn’t think we’d get more than 70 out of him.”

Winger Ben Morris also made his first start for Dorchester, while debutant Josh Williams assisted Rodriguez for the Magpies’ opener.

Thompson said: “(Josh) did very, very well. That’s only good for the club that we’ve got a young player doing that well.

“Ben found it quite tough but he did OK. It was his first start but he did fine.”
