STURMINSTER NEWTON UTD 3

LYME REGIS 1

LYME Regis crashed out of the Dorset Senior Trophy with a 3-1 defeat to Sturminster Newton United.

The Seasiders went 1-0 down after only 25 seconds, when Stur took advantage of an early Lyme attack to break away and fire in past Will Meech in the Seasiders’ goal.

There was controversy in the 15th minute when Sturminster played a short pass which Bearpark raced on to, hit the ball over the goalkeeper who was now outside of his box but who saved the shot.

Bearpark also clattered into the keeper which led to him being substituted for Jamie Rodriguez.

Lyme recovered and took control of the contest, and got their reward when Cody Bowditch hit a mis-hit shot and the ball fell to Rodriguez seven yards out who made no mistake.

The Seasiders carried on their good vein of play yet could not find the killer touch.

However, a deflected strike in the 87th minute broke Lyme hearts.

Sturminster then killed the tie with another goal on the counter in the 91st minute.

When asked if he felt the result was fair, Lyme manager Gerard Hitchcock said: “Not really. We were pretty much in control for most of the game we just could not put the ball into the back of the net.”
