SWANAGE 12

DORCHESTER, W&P 24

DORCHESTER, Weymouth & Portland ladies grabbed their first win of the season with a superb 24-12 victory over Swanage in the Women’s NC South Two Division.

Both teams teams played some excellent, well-fought rugby but the visitors got off to a strong start to take an early lead.

Jenna Gower ran over to claim the first try within the first five minutes.

The Swans came back but had to work hard in DW&P’s 22 to score a try of their own to even the score.

A further well-worked forwards’ try, finished off by Cassie Beacock, after a bravely charged down kick from Tanya Adams earned the points, before another by centre Kasia Skoma helped the visitors to a solid lead at half-time.

In the second half, the tries did not come so easily as both teams were well-matched.

However, the visitors broke the drought with a magnificent run from Candy Easter covering almost the entire length of the pitch to touch down.

The visitors saw out their lead to cement their first victory of the season.

Dorchester, Weymouth and Portland head coach Samantha Wilson said: “I am incredibly proud.

“It is a hard situation to get ladies to play rugby because they believe that they can’t and they most certainly can.

“It has been our first proper league win for a long time and yes I am incredibly proud of them all.

“It is a relief to finally win one so that you know that all of the effort that you put in, it is a relief to finally have it pay off.”

Their next game is at the Weymouth & Portland’s Monmouth Avenue on Sunday, October 21, against Oakmeadians Seconds.
