WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley says he wants to make the Bob Lucas Stadium a fortress as the Terras approach one year unbeaten at home in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.

Their last league defeat at home came in a 2-0 loss to Frome on Tuesday, October 24 last year.

The Terras now face Walton Casuals in a rearranged game next Saturday after their scheduled clash with the Metropolitan Police was postponed and, barring a defeat, are guaranteed to hit the mark.

Molesley said: “Long may that continue.

“We obviously want to make it a fortress, we want to make sure that this is a tough place to come and teams are having to come and defend for their lives, and that is for sure they are going to have to.”

Molesley also sent out the warning that if a team wants to come to the Bob Lucas Stadium and get something they are going to have to be prepared.

He said: “So anyone that is going to want get something from here is going to have to come and set up right.”

Wimborne were the latest victims to the Terras’ superb league form at home, as Weymouth beat them 1-0 on Saturday but Molesley praised them for their efforts.

Molesley continued: “Wimborne made it a really hard-fought three points last Saturday.

“We have had a couple of disappointing draws here this season as well.

“It just shows how important how an early goal for us ruins the other team’s game plan.”

However, Molesley insists his side have to be hard on themselves and continue looking for opportunities and be wary of teams sitting and defending in bulk.

Molesley said: “We have got to be hard on ourselves we have got to try and create more opportunities against teams sitting in and blocking up and we have got to find creative and inventive ways to get through that and when we do we have got to show the composure to put our chances away.

“We have got people who can find the net in our team.

“Job done and now we turn our attention to next Saturday, it is relentless this league and you cannot take your eye off the ball for one second.”

When asked about Wimborne’s defensive strategy, that saw them sit very deep and look to hit Weymouth on the break Molesley said that they will not be the last team to do that.

Molesley said: “They are not going to be the first and they are definitely not going to be the last.

“I think it is credit to us that teams are trying to drop in and defend their half, not many teams go out toe to toe and want to attack us so their threat never goes away. Because the more you have got the ball the more you are trying to open up and be more expansive to get that goal you obviously leave yourself a bit more open for counter-attacks.

“Every team poses a counter attack threat as did Wimborne, their wide men and their striker are all good players and Holmesy (Luke Holmes) in midfield is a good player so you have got to be concentrated and focused all of the time otherwise you can have the ball for 90 per cent but if you switch off when they get it they can get a goal so we had to be organised and resolute. A clean sheet and three points so I am happy.”

Weymouth travel to Swindon Supermarine on Saturday (3pm).
