PARK District X’s title hopes took a dent after a comprehensive 22-10 defeat to Colliton X.

Park were only able to field two players and despite John Ryan’s maximum for the loss of one leg that disadvantage was too much to make up.

Andy Crouch with seven, Raj Lehal and Mick Hogan, both scoring six, all beat Luis Ventura to secure the win.

Elsewhere, Budmouth B proved too strong for Dorchester YMCA, with Robin Prince smashing his way to a maximum, ably supported by the return of Neil Hardisty with eight and Jed Brackenridge’s six.

Steve White and Ken Brake won for YMCA and White partnered Andy Webb to win the closing doubles but it was too little too late. Budmouth A beat

Preston B in a high-quality match.

The match of the night was between the wily Roger Lovell and the up-and-coming Josh Clark.

Clark won the first two legs and was 10-9 up in the third but the experienced Lovell fought his way back and levelled the match at 2-2.

Clark then found himself 7-2 down in the decider but never dropped another point to claim a close victory.

Current Division One champions, Springfield A, overcame a Park District A team with eyes on taking their crown in an entertaining 21-15 win. Jeff Rigby, with nine, won all three of his matches for the victors as Tim Scott, with eight, and Michelle Leonard backed up well. Luke Hunt top scored for Park with six.

After Preston A agreed to bring their match against Shipton Gorge B forward to avoid Shipton suffering a third matchless week, Gorge took a 30-6 win.

Wyke A remain unbeaten after their 27-9 success at Colliton C, winning their first eight matches before Katherine Bundy, with four, scored Colliton’s only victory of the night, over Ian South who claimed six.

In a rare draw, All Saints A and Springfield B shared the spoils 21-21. This was a very close game between a young and upcoming All Saints team and last season’s Division Two runners-up, a good example being Paul Manvell’s 19-17 win in the fourth leg to overcome Ollie James 3-1.

Springfield needed two points in the doubles to secure the win but the pairing of Jess Moggeridge and Ethan Clark, scoring eight and five respectively, produced a 3-1 triumph to earn a draw.

Wyke B inflicted a heavy 30-2 defeat on Park District Y, who continue to look for their first success of the season.

William Roper scored both of Park’s points with Rod Wyness, David Wyatt and Paul Robson-Rowell all securing maximums for Wyke with Wyness being particularly ruthless.

The derby fixture between the boys of Budmouth D and the girls of Budmouth E lived up to all expectations in an exciting and closely-fought contest.

Budmouth’s girls got off to a great start as Sophie Storey, with seven, fought back from losing the first leg to Liam Critchard, with four, to take the next

three.

George Ackerley, scoring nine, then achieved the first of his three victories by beating Holly Calton, with six, in three legs but that only spurred Calton

to greater heights as she went on to beat Critchard with some

superb hitting and then Ted

Paul, with three, in similar fashion.

Both Paul and Ashleigh Browne, with three, picked up three

legs each to level the score at 16-16.

Calton and Storey overcame Critchard and Paul in a fitting climax to the evening to see the girls home with a 19-17 victory.

In the Preston derby, D came out on top 29-9 over E.

Martin Singer, with four, secured the only win on the

night for E, surviving a spirited fight back from Christine Roy, with eight, who had earlier survived the same from Darren Smith.
