DORSET went to Somerset Donyatt high in spirits after the thumping of Devon last time out yet saw a mixed return from their trip.

Session one for the Dorset premier team started off with some good and bad results.

Sam Harvey won 14-9 but Glenn Harvey lost 19-11.

In the pairs, Steve Stanton and Ben Riley lost 16-9 and Emily Thomas and Lynn Dean won 19-7, leaving the two Premier teams level at 4-4.

Session two did not go well for Dorset after they lost both triples and one fours match.

However, the four of Christina Chant, Sam Everett, Paul Pomeroy and Mark White won their game 19-4 leaving the half-time score 10-6 to Somerset.

Session three saw Dorset win all four mats and by triumphing so well in both the games, the county claimed all the bonus points which saw them go into session four 18-10 up.

In the final session, Dorset needed to win two mats to secure the victory which is exactly what they did.

The triple of David Redfern, Michael Hall and Alex Kley were victorious 18-7, however, it was not enough to win the triples bonus points.

With Mark White’s four winning 11-7 and, the quartet of Hazel Thomas, Tony Carr, Brian Baker and Robert Martin only losing 9-7, it meant that Dorset won the fours bonus points.

This brought the full-time score to a 24-16 to Dorset.

Dorset A made a bad start in session one by losing both singles games and both pairs.

Session two did not go much better for Dorset, however, the four of Sandra Hopkins, Emilia Thompson, Robin Gale and Jim Hayle won 10-9 to leave the half-time score 14-2 to Somerset A.

Session three saw Barry Whitburn win his singles match 12-11.

The pair of Gillian Honeybun and Simon Andrews won 14-8, however, this was not enough to take the bonus points leaving Dorset going into the final session 22-6 down.

In session four, Jim Hayle’s four drew 11-11 to remain undefeated for the day.

This was impressive as they had to recover from 11-5 down with three ends to play.

The triple of James Kley, Brian Smith and Paul Gough drew their game 12-12m which left the full-time score Somerset A 32 Dorset A 8.

Up next for both Dorset teams is Cornwall at home.
