BOSCOMBE POLONIA 3

UPWEY & BROADWEY 3

(Upwey win 4-2 on penalties)

UPWEY & Broadwey claimed a barnstorming 4-2 win on penalties after a furious latter half to the match in their Dorset Intermediate Cup clash.

Upwey had to come back after going a goal down in the second half, but a frantic extra-time saw four goals yet both teams still level after a further 30 minutes, leading to the shoot-out.

Upwey manager Steve Reynolds drafted in his nephews Harry Reynolds who played in goal, as well as Pete Jarvis in midfield.

It was an eventful debut for Harry Reynolds, who saved a penalty in normal time and made several key saves before saving a spot-kick during the penalty shoot-out.

Adam Hanger and Harry Reynolds both fouled a player that led to a Boscombe penalty, but the latter managed to save the spot-kick.

The two sides were deadlocked at half-time, with neither side having been able to craft a breakthrough during the opening 45.

However, it would be the home side that took the lead after 70 minutes.

Upwey switched up their personnel and made tactical changes which led to a William Walden cross finding its way to Jack Sapsworth who headed in for the equaliser after 82 minutes.

There was further drama to come however, as the extra-time would finish 3-3.

Upwey proceeded to take the lead twice during the second period of extra-time but were pegged back twice by Boscombe.

Charlie Allen, another of Reynolds’ nephews, handed Upwey the lead for the first time with a flicked header after 106 minutes.

However, Boscombe again came back five minutes later to slot past Harry Reynolds.

It seemed that George Otton’s goal which he poked in at the far-post from a corner with 113 minutes on the clock had won the match for Upwey.

However, Boscombe again had an equaliser in them as they broke down the left and managed to fire past Harry Reynolds.

In the penalty shoot-out, Boscombe hit the post with their first, before Harry Reynolds saved their second, while Upwey scored all four penalties required with Jarvis slotting the winning penalty.

Steve Reynolds said: “There was some exceptional performances. Harry making those two great saves in the first half, we have gone a goal down and then we have had to change things.”

Upwey travel to Wareham Rangers Reserves in Division One of the Dorset League tomorrow (3pm).
