UTILITY player Cameron Vere is set to sign for Bridport after taking a year away from the game to go travelling.

Last season Vere, who started every one of his 15 games in the red and black strip of the Bees, scored one goal before jetting off for an extended break.

Speaking to Echosport about the expected return of Vere, who can play in defence or midfield, boss Adam Fricker believes the player’s return would be “massive” for the club.

He said: “He’s re-signed for the club, so that will be a massive plus for us because he was in great form for us before he went away in the back end of September last year.

“Because he was registered last season, it’s all done over email. I’ve been in contact with him ever since he’s been away and he contacted me a few weeks ago.

“We weren’t expecting him back until Christmas but he confirmed he’s going to be back at the back end of October.

“All the forms have been completed and it will be great to get him back. He’s very versatile and will give us some great options along the back four.”

Given his year off, Fricker anticipates a gradual return to match fitness for Vere, who is understood to have kept himself in good shape whilst away from the pitch.

He said: “Obviously match fitness-wise it’s going to take him a while or a few games.

“But he keeps himself fit anyway so it’s one of those where you just need to chuck him straight back into action and get that rustiness out of the way for a couple of games.

“We’ll be looking to get him involved as soon as we physically can.”
