THE youngsters of Budmouth A proved too strong for the experienced YMCA team in Division One and despite some spirited play from the home team, Budmouth’s Will Jolliffe, Josh Clark and and Nathan Calton all took maximum individual points.

Steve White and Andy Webb, with one each, did manage to whitewash Clark and Calton in the doubles but it was little consolation in a 27-6 defeat.

The benefits of regular practice and training sessions for the Budmouth players were very apparent and their victory was well deserved.

An excellent win for Budmouth B with the two youngsters Jed Brackenridge and Ben Howe both claiming maximums as did Rob Hawes who has returned to play in the Weymouth League after many years away.

The pick of the matches was the battle between Tony Reed, with four, and Howe which was decided 11-9 in the fifth leg after a very close encounter.

A close second was the match between the hard-hitters, Mike Spracklen, with four, and Hawes which went Hawes’ way 11-2 in the fifth.

The final score of 30-8 did not

do justice to the Red Triangle team who pushed the boys all the way.

Springfield A continued their strong start with a 26-9 win over Preston B.

Both Jeff Rigby and Tim Scott hit maximums whilst Simon Green, Roger Lovell and Miranda Edwardes with respective tallies of three, two and one, all contributed to Preston’s score.

Shipton Gorge C came out on top in closely-fought battle with Preston A 19-18 in Division Two.

Tom Baldry’s score of nine was the difference on the night in winning all three of his matches for the loss of just two legs.

Trevor Deadman-Spall, with seven, also scored well for the victors with Eddie Chapman, also seven, top-scoring for Preston.

All Saints A suffered just one loss on the night, when Edith Dedman beat Ethan Clark 3-0, on their way to 27-10 win over Budmouth C.

Jess Moggeridge and Richard Wood both secured maximums for the victors with Dedman’s five the top score for Budmouth.

Springfield B beat Shipton Gorge B 22-18 in a very close match with lots of fine table tennis played.

Ten legs went to deuce with matches being won by strong comebacks and power play by both teams.

The doubles match was also a close affair with the final leg going to deuce before the home pair of Paul Arnold and Gary Ayles, scoring nine and six respectively, saw off the visitors to seal a home victory.

In Division Three, Springfield D fought back from 17-12 down to secure a point in an 18-18 draw with Wey Valley.

Pete Anderson, with eight, first of all defeated Lewis Sumption, scorer of three, in straight sets before teaming up with David Moth to beat Ethan Bingham and Richard Lane 3-1 in the doubles to snatch the draw.

Preston E had a dominant 27-9 win over Wyke B.

In a fun game, Wyke’s Rod Wyness, with four, was not on his best form.

However but Preston’s Chris Harris, scoring six, played well for his first match in the league.

Finally, Preston D overcame Wyke C 22-16 in a match that swung one way and then the other.

Preston started strongly but Wyke fought back with Jean Baker, on eight, beating Heather Merritt, with three, and Tom Hepburn, also three, getting the better of Christine Roy, scorer of eight.

Two wins for Preston’s Roger Winstanley, also eight, and Roy meant Wyke needed to win the doubles 3-0.

However, Preston took the doubles 3-0 instead as they completed their win.
