WEYMOUTH sent two crews to the season-ending Swanage supervets regatta and experienced mixed fortunes.

Eighteen clubs attended on a glorious October day with calm seas and blue sky, while the two-buoy turn course was approximately two miles.

Swanage Bay made a wonderful backdrop to the races and the Weymouth ladies finished fourth in their heat but failed to get into the final.

The supervets did recover to a wonderful second row in the plate race where they gained second.

Elsewhere, the men won a place in the final after their heat, gaining fourth place with a time of 16.40 minutes before claiming eighth place overall in the final.

A barbarian race completed the day.

The ladies’ supervets’ captain said: “A lovely sunny, happy regatta and well done to all crews.”

Swanage ends the year’s regattas and squad crews will now be training hard for the Three Rivers race in the spring.

Also at the weekend, a crew of Weymouth rowers took part in the Poole Trafalgar day race, seven miles around Brownsea Island, chasing Swanage to gain second place.

Meanwhile, the club welcomes new rowers and their next new rower taster sessions will be in spring 2019.
