BRIGHTON LADIES 2

YEOVIL LADIES 1

YEOVIL Town Ladies were on the wrong side of a 2-1 defeat for the fourth successive match as Brighton secured a crucial win over the Glovers.

A late rally from the visitors was not enough and leaves Yeovil still waiting for their first point of the season.

It took just 13 minutes for the home side to break the deadlock when Jodie Brett capitalised on some lacklustre defending.

Seconds before, a Hannah Short free-kick had tested the home side but from then on most of the positive play came from Brighton.

Apart from a few long-range efforts from Amber Gaylor, chances were at a premium.

On 32 minutes, Yeovil had a mountain to climb when they were made to pay for another lapse in concentration from a corner.

Victoria Williams was on hand to give the home side a two-goal advantage.

Lee Burch’s team talk certainly worked as Yeovil were like a different side in the second half.

The Glovers came out all-guns-blazing creating chances and, on 56 minutes, 16-year-old Erin Bloomfield made her way on to the field.

It was quite a moment for the young forward who made quite an impression.

With 20 minutes to go, the Glovers got themselves back in the game. Marie Hourihan’s rash challenge meant the goalkeeper was penalised with the referee pointing to the spot.

Ellie Mason stepped up to take the spot-kick and it was saved before the midfielder hammered home the rebound.

Straight from the kick off, Yeovil had Megan Walsh to thank for the score remaining at 2-1. She palmed the ball away and the Glovers were able to break.

It was then Amy Goddard who almost got the equaliser when she hit a fantastic effort from distance. But Hourihan produced an equally brilliant save.

Yeovil really pushed for the equaliser but were made to pay for a lacklustre first half.

It was another heartbreak on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline but the manager will take the positives from what was another encouraging second-half performance against a side in and around them in the league.

The Glovers return to the Clayson Stadium on Sunday in another crucial match against second-bottom side Everton.
